The Sanctuary of Maria Santissima della Catena di Lipari is located in the hamlet of Quattropani, in the northern part of the island. It is also known as the Old Church and its construction dates back to 1588. The building is characterized by its architectural simplicity and essentiality, but also by the white color of its facade. Inside there is an oil painting on canvas from the 18th century and a wooden statue of Our Lady of the Chain from the same period. The area where the Sanctuary is located is also one of the most panoramic points of Lipari. From here you can enjoy a privileged view of Salina and the other Aeolian Islands.
How to reach the ancient church of Quattropani
You can reach the ancient church of Quattropani either by your own means or by public transport. In the first case, from the center of the town, simply take the SP17 to Quattropani and then, at the fork, follow the signs for the Sanctuary. There is a large clearing in the area and it is easy to park. Alternatively, you can take the bus from the main port of Lipari to the crossroads of Quattropani. From there you have to walk for about 20 minutes.
