The Museum of Popular Art and Traditions in Taormina is a collection of more than 430 works, mostly from the “Panarello Collection”. Officially founded in 1997, it was initially housed in Palazzo Corvaja. From 2018 all the exhibits will be displayed in the new location of the former church of San Francesco di Paolo. The works of the Taormina Museum of Popular Art and Traditions are divided into 14 thematic sections and trace Sicilian handicraft production between 1600 and 1900. Some of the most representative elements of the island’s cultural heritage can be admired, such as the Sicilian cart and Sicilian puppets. There are also some ceramics with human forms from the workshops of Caltagirone, devotional sculptures, family portraits, embroidery and lace.
