Ancient arch of Castelmola

The ancient arch of Castelmola is the symbol of this small village above Taormina. It is located in Piazza Sant’Antonio, right at the entrance to the village. This monumental arch dates back to 900 A.D. and has Greco-Roman architectural features. It originally stood at the top of a flight of steps carved into the rock, just after the “Porta di Mola”, the main entrance to the village. In 1954, during the construction of Piazza Sant’Antonio, the arch was isolated and placed on a limestone staircase. Today, with its majestic beauty, it opens scenographically a visit to one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Sicily.
