The small church of San Giuseppe of Lipari is located in the splendid setting of Marina Corta, one of the most beautiful sights of the island. The building was erected in 1545 after the previous year, during the invasion of the pirate Ariadeno Barbarossa, the previous church dedicated to St. Joseph had been destroyed. On that occasion all the main churches of Lipari were rebuilt, including the Cathedral of San Bartolomeo and the Church of Anime del Purgatorio. The interior has a single nave, baroque decorations and a barrel vault. There are also several works of art in the Church of St. Joseph of Lipari, including a 1681 Holy Family by Filippo Tancredi. Every year on March 19, the statue of St. Joseph is carried in a procession through the streets of the old town. The route ends in the evening with the return of the statue accompanied by fireworks.
