White Beach (Lipari)

White Beach is certainly one of the most famous on Lipari. This beach, and the lido of the same name, both get their name from the colour of the water on the north-eastern coast of the island. The waste product from pumice mining was deposited on the seabed, turning the water turquoise and the seabed completely white. After the permanent closure of the pumice quarries in 2007, this phenomenon no longer occurs either here or on Papesca Beach (which was, in fact, called Spiaggia Bianca or White Beach), nor on Porticello Beach, and the sea has returned to its natural colour. There is a lido called White Beach, where you can rent parasols and deckchairs and also have lunch. From 4 pm onwards, there is music and you can enjoy aperitifs and evening meals. At night, the beach turns into a real disco.

How to reach the White Beach of Lipari

It is possible to reach White Beach from both land and sea. The second way is obviously the easiest and involves paying for a taxi boat ride. The boats all leave from Canneto Beach and tickets can also be bought in the main village. In the latter case, the cost of the ticket also includes the short bus ride from Lipari town to Canneto Beach. White Beach can also be reached on foot. After parking your vehicle, you will have to walk along the main road. The path is not asphalted and is very slippery, so it is advisable to wear suitable shoes or, in any case, avoid shoes with a smooth sole. There is also a paid “jeep service” if you want to avoid the descent on foot.
