The Gallery of Contemporary Art Elvira Emilia Pirrone Resso is a museum located in the former convent of the Church of Santa Chiara in Noto. It is dedicated to the mother of Giuseppe Fortunato Pirrone, one of the greatest exponents of 20th century contemporary art in Sicily and beyond. In 1966 Pirrone donated to the city of Noto a considerable number of works and a collection of seven hundred medals. These make up the collection of the gallery, which was officially inaugurated in June 2003. The collection includes sculptures in bronze and gold, as well as medals that highlight Pirrone’s skill as a portraitist, dedicated to illustrious personalities and family members.
